Ripstop nylon (Pertex-style shells)
A light woven nylon with a reinforcement grid that stops tears from spreading. It's typical of wind shells and packable running jackets. PERTEX® is one well-known brand of such fabrics.
How it’s made
- 1Fine nylon yarns are woven with thicker reinforcing threads at regular intervals, forming a grid.
- 2Often calendered (pressed) for wind resistance and treated with a DWR finish.
What to look for
- PFC-free DWR
- Recycled nylon
